Battle of Germantown

The Battle of Germantown was located in Germantown, Pennsylvania. In this battle 537 American soldiers were wounded/killed and 1,075 redcoats were killed/wounded. General Peter Muhlenburg was general of the redcoats. Peter lead the redcoats up until the day he died. This battle started October 4, 1777. General Washington kept the Americans in the lead. He wanted the colonists to have freedom from Britain. This battle was after the colonists defeated them at Brandywine Creek, Pennsylvania. The reason for this battle was to win over freedom and land. The Americans panicked when they heard the first shot. Anthony Wayne mistook the British signal. The British were practice shooting. In this battle Americans won. The night before the battle the British made it so General John Burgoyone had assistance with the attack. The British wore red coats and headgear. The British fleet was in Delaware Bay. George Washington had been reinforced by Maryland and New Jersey troops. 11,000 men came into battle. 152 were killed. 521 were wounded. 438 were captured.
The American leaders were Timothy Pickering, George Washington, and Nathanael Green. The British commander was Cornwallis. George Washington's strategy was to make a surprise attack. Battle of Germantown was a dramatic battle. Battle of Germantown had no affect on Europe.
